Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist position funded by Diabetes UK in the laboratory of Dr Kei Sakamoto. We are looking for talented, highly motivated individuals to join our group to study the molecular mechanism of insulin resistance and identification of new targets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Applicants should have recently obtained a PhD or postdoctoral researchers wishing to move into a new research discipline. The candidates should have experience in the fields of biochemistry and molecular physiology. The candidates with expertise in mouse physiology (metabolic phenotyping) would also be considered.
The position is available from March 2010, but applicant wishing to start at any time up to April-May 2010 will be considered. The successful applicant will have an outstanding academic track record and have published several first authored papers in prominent journals. The MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit is a major international centre for research on cell signalling. Research funding to the Unit is one of the highest in the UK and its innovative collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry (The Division of Signal Transduction Therapy) received a Queen’s Anniversary Award in 2006.
